The tragedy plays written by William Shakespeare have as their central characters people of wealth and power, who though they might posses noble qualities are destroyed by their flaws. The plots explore the strengths and weaknesses of characters, their interactions and the resulting events which can cause the downfall of the heroic and innocent as well as the evil and corrupt. Themes found within the plays include heroism, ambition, betrayal, greed, revenge, love and hate.
