Biography:

William Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-Avon, in the year 1564 and died in the year 1616. It is presumed that he attended a local Grammar school, but he did not proceed to University. Shakespeare wrote 38 plays and many works of poetry. He was part of an acting company called the Lord Chamberlain's Men. In 1599, on the south bank of the River Thames, they built the Globe Theatre, where many of Shakespeare's plays were performed. The works of Shakespeare have had a major influence on other writers and on the development of the English language. Hundreds of words and phrases from Shakespeare plays have entered common usage.
