The events
found in the history plays written by William
Shakespereare, were described in chronicles
that were available at the time and which
he could have read. The chronicles recorded
things which their authors thought might be
of interest to their readership such as the
lives of royalty, battles and unusual events.
Around these historical events, Shakespeare
created the form of the history play. Through
these plays he was able to explore the political
and private lives of powerful characters and
the way that they both shaped and were shaped
by the world in which they lived. |
