Lucentio and his servant Tranio have travelled from
Paris to Padua in Italy. Bianca's hand is sought
in marriage by Hortensio and Gremio. Bianca's father
Baptista states that she cannot marry until her
shrewish sister Katherina marries. Lucentio falls
in love with Bianca. Petruchio arrives in Padua
from Verona. Bianca's suitors persuade Petruchio
to seek marriage with Katherina, for her dowry.
Petruchio meets Katherina and they argue. Petruchio
states his intention to marry Katherina, though
she protests. Baptista announces that Bianca will
marry the suitor with the highest dowry. After the
wedding Petruchio and Katherina leave for his country
home and learn to live together as husband and wife.
Hortensio stops courting Bianca and marries a wealthy
widow, who is in love with him and Bianca marries
Lucentio. They all celebrate the marriages of Petruchio
to Kate, Hortensio to the widow and Lucentio to
Bianca.
