King Ferdinand and his friends Berowne, Longaville
and Dumaine vow to study for three years without
female contact. The French princess comes to court
with her three ladies, Katharine, Maria, and Rosaline,
but they are refused entry and she meets the King
outside the gates. Secretly the kings three friends
court the princesses three ladies. The King repents
and with his three friends decides to break their
vows and win their women. But the princess and her
three ladies test the men, by giving them penances
which they must complete before they will accept
them in marriage.
